The 20th Annual Conference of the Central Association of Teachers of Japanese (CATJ 20) will take place at the University of Wisconsin on May 31-June 1, 2008. The central theme of this year's conference is “Toward Advanced Japanese Language Proficiency.”  Together we will explore the following questions:

  • How can we conceptualize advanced language proficiency? 
  • How can we assess and assist learners’ development toward advanced language proficiency?
  • How can linguistic features of Japanese and socicultural factors surrounding learners of Japanese influence their development of advanced language proficiency?
